A Working Lab – Innomedicum

September 17, 2020. Today, the co-working environment A Working Lab Innomedicum is inaugurated – a central new meeting place for innovation in Life Science where students, researchers, entrepreneurs and start-up companies can converge in the middle of Campus Solna.

Akademiska Hus, together with KI Innovations and KI Science Park, is behind the nearly 5,000 square meter co-working environment on Nanna Svartz väg 4 in Solna. A Working Lab Innomedicum contains flexible workplaces, private offices, labs, meeting rooms, makerspace and event spaces for businesses that want to contribute to better health for all.

– We are very happy to inaugurate A Working Lab Innomedicum today. There has long been a demand for smaller office and laboratory premises where you can meet in new, flexible forms – both from companies that are already established in the field and others who want to come here to be close to Karolinska Institutet and Life Science companies, says Ulf Däversjö, director of innovation and sustainable development at Akademiska Hus.

The interest is huge

At present, there are 67 members from around 15 companies active in A Working Lab Innomedicum. The mix of activities means that the premises function as an important bridge between research and business where opportunities for collaboration, growth and development can arise. By sharing laboratories and instruments in the same way as the office space in the co-working part, completely new opportunities are opened up for more people in the industry. In this way, members can keep costs down and at the same time have access to environments adapted to their needs.

– The mix of innovation offices, incubators, researchers, students and companies makes us a unique Life Science hub. KI Innovation’s role is to be a bridge between academic research and the entrepreneurial world where you can develop your invention into a product. What we have missed so far is a physical environment and a community where innovators, startups, and entrepreneurs meet – learn from each other, start their companies and develop. AWL Innomedicum fills that void and creates unique opportunities for Life Science innovations for the entire region, says Lilian Wikström, CEO of KI Innovations.

– A co-working environment is a welcome feature within KI Science Park. We get a completely new platform for collaboration between business, academia and society. Today we have about 80 companies in the park and we have seen a steady increase in recent years. Innomedicum will create even better conditions for growth, says Sara Gunnerås, community manager at KI Science Park.
